Usability Testing

Pacific Science & Engineering performs usability testing on a wide variety of hardware and software products. Our testing facility includes a suite of tools for head, eyelid, and gaze tracking, HD video capture and editing, audio recording and editing, and remote observation.

Our test participants are drawn from a pool of subject matter experts (SMEs) which includes surgeons, nurses, systems analysts, computer scientists, and military personnel. Test subjects meet the rigorous requirements of the federally approved Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Our testing personnel have more than 30 years experience in human factors, ergonomics, and psychololgy. They hold advanced degrees in Applied Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Ergonomics.

The Automated Digital Network System (ADNS) is a key interface for managing network information on and off all U.S. Navy ships. By eliminating dedicated media circuits, ADNS allows the Navy to move completely to Internet protocol, which enables more efficient information routing and transfer. Successive versions of ADNS have improved its data throughput capabilities and network efficiency.

NATO Web Information Services Environment (NATO WISE) portal is an open-source, web-based application designed to enable users to easily design, develop, and manage their own web sites, applications, content, and security permissions in real-time. NATO decision makers use WISE as a knowledge management and information flow system.

Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a web-based user interface developed to integrate with U.S. Navy accounting functionality. It allows users to access key Supply Chain Management (SCM) and ERP Central Component (ECC) functions.

Environmental Satellite Receiver Processor (ESRP): TeraVision is a software application designed to give users the ability to view and manipulate processed satellite imagery, access weather data quickly, apply enhancements, and output that data into a file format suitable for insertion into a briefing.

Trident Warrior is the U.S. Navy’s major FORCEnet Sea Trial event which has been conducted annually since 2003 on underway ships and at land-based command centers. TW supports a military utility assessment of emerging technologies within a real-world operational environment. Numerous technologies are examined within more than a dozen initiative areas, such as Networks, Information Assurance, and C2. HSI has been included in each TW exercise, both as a technology initiative and as an assessment area for individual technologies.

Human Performance Metrics Ontology was a joint effort across the Naval System Commands focused on developing tools and techniques to support human systems integration research and practice. One of its goals was to develop a comprehensive set of human performance metrics that is applicable for system engineering and a data repository for accessing those metrics and test results.
