Measuring Employee Satisfaction

The Approach

Janey on the job

PSE assisted with the construction and administration of a job satisfaction survey , analyzed survey data, and prepared a briefing and a technical report of the findings. The survey was administered to county employees over a wide geographic region in order to assess their current job satisfaction and to determine how to improve their quality of work life.

The final survey contained 38 scaled survey items, four open-ended items, and a brief demographic section. Six hundred and four employees from four job locations and 22 departments responded to the survey. A factor analysis was conducted to reduce the dimensionality of the data set. Six composite scores were developed: Work Group Relations.

The Solution

Really cleaning up

PSE analyzed, summarized, and presented the survey results along with recommendations for management intervention in several areas: Leadership, Working Conditions, Civic Pride, Skill Development, and Policies / Procedures.

PSE also made specific suggestions for improving the process of assessing employee satisfaction.

The Benefits

A job well done

PSE's analysis and recommendations triggered the formation of task force committees, composed of management and non-management employees, to address concerns in each of the problem areas identified by the survey.
