Knowledge Management and Decision Making

Our Knowledge Management and Decision Support Systems division specializes in developing efficient and effective solutions tailored to humans who work in challenging information management and decision making environments.

Working closely with users, we employ well established and newly emerging techniques to identify key design features and user requirements. Our expertise and broad experience allow us to quickly design and prototype technological, organizational, and/or procedural solutions to meet identified needs. Once prototyped, solutions are carefully assessed and validated under real-world operating conditions.

Modeling and Simulation of Multi-faceted Decision-Making

Cultural Decision Making

PSE has successfully developed an Integrative Decision Space Model (I-DecS) to model and simulate a culturally based decision-making process. Using the integrating algorithm with the component models provides a multi-faceted view of a decision process. I-DecS is flexible enough to allow for addition or modification of variables as development continues; incorporating influences of risk assessment in the decision making process is the objective of the proposed research. Decision-Centered Human-Computer Interfaces

Marine Commander using TACSAT

Multi- and single-user workstations and wall-sized displays designed to support specific tactical decision-making. Ergonomic issues such as touch-screen interface, visibility/readability, and multiple-user control were addressed and the design validated in real-world settings. Derivatives of the original design were then adapted for Navy ship-board use and used in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Learn more...
