PSE performed an ergonomic review of the proposed floor plans for selected new group workspaces under construction in the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Command Center.
We evaluated the floor plans for visual environment, trafficability and access, and ADA compliance (Americans with Disabilities Act). Emphasis was placed on factors that could impede information flow within and between various workspaces.
We were able to identify numerous ergonomic shortcomings in viewing environment, trafficability, accessibility, and ADA compliance. "Before and after" perspective scaled diagrams included recommended workspace redesigns that eliminated or minimized viewing angle and trafficability problems.
PSE's proposed changes improved information viewing, physical movement, and ADA compliance by 30-100% within these group workspaces.
Alternative configurations can be evaluated by ergonomic methods prior to implementation, saving time and money.
