Internship Program

What length of time are PSE's internships?

The initial period of employment is typically 6 months. When school is in session, interns should expect to work no more than 20 hours per week. With mutual agreement during the summer, interns may work full-time.

The initial period of employment may be renewed for an additional 6-month period if performance is satisfactory and if company projects and work schedules permit.

What type of work do PSE's interns do?

Interns rotate through many of PSE's functional divisions to work with current project teams.

Typical duties may include data entry and analysis, research design, setup and proctoring of experiments, literature reviews, report writing, survey development and administration, organizational consultation, software development and testing, and presentations.

Interns are also provided with paid "supervision" time consistent with internship requirements at their school. Supervision time gives the intern an opportunity to discuss professional issues and approaches with PSE senior staff.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Interns must fulfill the following requirements:

Please note, however, that internships are not limited to students in these courses of study. Inter-disciplinary project teams are the norm at PSE. We encourage fresh approaches to the problems that we tackle. We look for a strong research/science background and a desire to work in an applied R&D setting.

How much are PSE interns paid?

Upon employment, student interns will be compensated as part-time, temporary employees for all work performed for PSE during approved hours at a mutually determined rate that is competitive with the San Diego labor market for similar services and commensurate with the student's education and experience.
